I was fortunate enough to be selected for this years Society Of Illustrators Illustrators 55 annual and exhibition, which is a huge honour as they showcase the best international contemporary illustration. It’s the 3rd illustration annual I’ve been included in over the past year, and I’ve really appreciated the recognition and support from these well respected institutions after having graduated in 2011. P1010262editStrategies For Flooding above; many thanks to SOI for arranging the framing and hanging!P1010273(As you can tell my partner in illustration crime James Albon thoroughly enjoyed the show too)P1010255

The show was really busy, crammed with illustrators and art directors (and obviously some pretty hot work). It was great to meet with cool characters like John Hendrix and Jillian Tamaki (who will be taking over next year as chair), and also other recent graduates from the US art schools.

New York in general was definitely worth visiting for any illustrator. The MOMA was brilliant (mmm Modernism…) and the Met had a wonderful collection of European art, but the Morgan Library stood out for me with their exhibition of Surrealist drawings and a retrospective of Beatrix Potters work.

It was a pretty intense week of 9 portfolio reviews, but such a valuable experience. I’m very excited to start working on new portfolio pieces after getting some fantastic advice from super awesome publications like The New Yorker and The New York Times, so keep checking back for new work coming soon!
